I remember talking with my hubby about something we were planning and excited about. It was a project which really seemed like a smart investment. At the time we didn’t have the money and the obvious answer suggested that we take out a small loan.
Not long before this I had been studying in the book of Joshua and remembered a very valuable lesson of the story.
The Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you everything and make you remember all that I have told you.
John 14:26 GNT
In Joshua 9 it tells about the only time that Joshua didn’t consult God. The people from “next-door” convinced him that they were a people from far away. Their sandals were worn, their food was old and moldy – everything by appearance seemed obvious and true. BUT… it wasn’t.
The men believed the evidence they were shown, but they did not ask the Lord about it.
Joshua 9:14 GWT
This story impressed on me to consult God even if and especially when things appear obvious. He’s the only one who sees all things and holds all wisdom and truth. We thought a loan was the best answer for this investment, but were we missing something?
So I told Dan about Joshua 9 and we decided to pray and wait; ask God. We set the date to pursue the loan a week later if nothing else presented itself. Within just a few short days guess what? Yep! We received a check in the mailbox that satisfied the amount we needed for the project! It was money that we didn’t know was available. It just showed up. But I believe it was our humble position of thinking to “check” with God. And God sent a check! We weren’t asking for “free” money. We were asking God for wisdom, clarity and help.
What seems obvious in your life right now?
What do you need to consult God about?
Turning to God, saying a prayer and waiting a few extra days literally paid off!!!
You’ll never know if you do not ask. Glory to God!
