Do you ever wonder if God really cares about seemingly insignificant things like what we wear or the stuff we buy? Is there anything too small to ask God for… or about?
It’s not a secret that I’m no good at fashion. I loathe shopping for clothes and cringe at the thought of attempting to put together a somewhat presentable outfit! Clothes, shoes, style; fashion is not my thing!
As my daughter got older, I started asking for her help anytime she was around to help a Mama out! I was clueless! And her style tended to be neutral colors and my style resembled the colors of the rainbow… all worn at the same time! lol And might I say, all the colors, worn consecutively are not very becoming on me… or anyone for that matter! And let’s face it – as women we all want to look and feel beautiful, and some of us need more help than others; me! Ugh! The struggle is real!
But one day I was sitting at the dining room table reading my Bible in the book of Exodus. Exodus 28 to be exact. The more I read, the more excited I got! I kept reading until I couldn’t contain myself any longer! My thought was – if God can dress the priests, He can dress me too!! I jumped up and ran to my closet!
Call for your brother, Aaron, and his sons, Nadab, Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar. Set them apart from the rest of the people of Israel so they may minister to me and be my priests. Make sacred garments for Aaron that are glorious and beautiful. Instruct all the skilled craftsmen whom I have filled with the spirit of wisdom. Have them make garments for Aaron that will distinguish him as a priests set apart for my service….
Exodus 28:1-3… continued through 43
As each verse appeared before my eyes, I saw how God cared about what the Priests wore. He cared about the colors, the detail and how each piece fit together. He granted wisdom to designers and craftsmen in their expertise. He left nothing to chance! The colors were carefully chosen and fabrics specifically woven and even bejeweled! Can you believe it? Bejeweling started with God! Ha! You can read all about it in all of Exodus 28!
Insert back story here:
Coincidentally a few days before I ran to my closet I found myself in a thrift store loading up on clothes in the power of the Spirit. I gravitated and grabbed every neutral piece from size S to 1X! I tried on each piece from the mounding pile in my cart and to my surprise they all looked great! What?!?! That’s NEVER, and I mean NEVER happened!!! What woman goes into a fitting room and actually likes the way the clothes look?!?! Not me! I knew the spirit was helping me, because if you remember, I’m the colors of the rainbow girl! But that day I walked out with bags and bags of shades of white, gray, taupe, black- shirts, jackets, and pants! Yet when I got them home I had no idea what to do with them, I hadn’t gotten that far yet. They were all sitting in my closet waiting for Exodus 28!!!
Now back to running to my closet unable to contain myself:
For the next several hours I pulled out shirts, jackets, scarves, pants, and jewelry with the Holy Spirit guiding my hand, putting together each outfit in the right combination. I ended up putting them on hangers together and taking pictures so I wouldn’t forget these brilliant medleys! Every season was covered! And no piece was left out. It was a beautiful display of His creative eye for style!
Sometimes all it takes is for you and me to believe its possible. To believe that if God did it once He can do it again! To believe that God cares about what we care about because He cares about us! To believe that He’s in the seemingly small things as much as the great!
But really, is He not the world’s greatest designer – period?!?!?
How could He not care about design and beauty – He created it?!?!
I know this isn’t some heaven shaking story about how comes to us – but isn’t it refreshing and encouraging to know that He cares about our little seemingly insignificant personal everyday things too? … Because He cares about us!
So anyone who becomes as humble as this little child is the greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven.
